This Route 66 Outpost Set a WORLD RECORD!

The Fanning 66 Outpost is just a few miles west of Cuba, Missouri set along a scenic portion of The Mother Road. Chock full of 66 nostalgia, this outpost also became a world record holder in 2008.

The outpost is a treasure trove of memorabilia, souvenirs, local crafts, outdoor supplies, snacks and beverages. They feature many locally made wines and handmade keepsakes. It’s a great rest stop for travelers and often serves as a meeting spot for cyclists before they head to the nearby Katy Trail.

What makes the Fanning 66 Outpost stand out, however, is their giant rocking chair. The chair was erected in 2008, claiming the dignified title of World’s Largest Rocking Chair. The chair towers above visitors at a height of 42 feet, and weighs in at over 27,000 pounds. It is quintessentially 66. Unfortunately, Fanning lost its title in 2015 to a chair that was constructed in Casey, Illinois, but that doesn’t make Fanning’s chair any less impressive in our eyes. Make sure to snap a photo of this iconic attraction when you visit.

The Fanning 66 Outpost celebrates its American heritage by being a gathering spot for car enthusiasts, motorcyclists, and festival goers. The Fanning community is small, welcoming, and lively. Don’t miss this slice of Americana on your next Dust Bowl roadtrip.
