Now located in East Amarillo, The Bug Ranch pays homage to the more famous Cadillac Ranch which lies just 15 minutes west on Interstate 40. Instead of copying the legendary attraction, however, Slug Bug Ranch is a scrappier site which provides travelers a hands on experience they won’t forget.

The Slug Bug Ranch is an installation that features half buried VW bugs which stick out of the earth at a 45° angle. The bugs are covered in graffiti and passersby are encouraged to leave their own mark on the ever changing attraction. Like the Mother Road itself, these cars are a symbol of the constant change in American travel and culture. They are also a reminder of the iconic car that once represented the American road trip.

The location change to East Amarillo has boosted the site’s visibility. Slug Bug Ranch is located in front of the Starlight Ranch – a large outdoor concert and events venue which also helps draw in travelers and encourages them to linger at the attraction.
Leave your mark in spray paint – become part of the culture that shapes Route 66.
