The Nut House is a beloved Route 66 landmark with roots that run deep – quite literally. Found alongside the Mother Road in Claremore, Oklahoma, this destination started in the 1970’s as a humble pecan stand. Roger and Margie Peterson – without exaggeration – started their operation from the ground up. Their business began by selling pecans from their own backyard grove in a cabin that was built from pecan logs found on the property. In turn, their commitment to local resources became a guiding principle, shaping both their business and the products they offer.

The cabin, built in 1973 was used as a pecan-cracking house, as well as a small retail space where they sold their fresh nuts. Throughout the 1970’s The Nut House expanded its offerings. An additional grove was purchased and different varieties of pecans were sold. In 1979, the Petersons moved their rustic shop to its current location on Route 66, making it more accessible to travelers. Years of high-quality pecan production earned them recognition in 1982 when they were named Pecan Growers of the Year by the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Association. The Nut House has continued to evolve while staying true to its roots. Today, visitors will find a diverse selection of seasonal gifts, Made in Oklahoma products, and Route 66 memorabilia—making it an ideal place to pick up a unique souvenir along the road.

One of the biggest draws of The Nut House is its homemade fudge, made fresh in a variety of flavors that keep customers coming back for more. From classic chocolate to seasonal specialties, there’s a flavor for every sweet tooth.
The shop also features a deli that serves lunch seven days a week, offering fresh sandwiches, soups, and other tasty bites—making it the perfect place to refuel before hitting the road again.
