Kansas Stretch of Route 66: Hidden Gems and Historic Haunts

Hey there, folks! RJ here, your guide to the grand ol’ Route 66 through the heart of Kansas. Now, let me tell ya, Kansas might only have a short stretch of this legendary road, but boy, does it pack a punch with charm and history. We’re talking about a mere 13 miles, but it’s 13 miles of pure Americana.

First up, we roll into Galena. It’s like stepping back in time, folks. You’ve got to check out the old Kan-O-Tex service station, now a cool little spot called Cars on the Route.

It’s a nod to the Cars movie, and if you’re a fan, you’re gonna love the truck they say inspired Tow Mater. Snap a picture; it’s a must.

Cruisin’ down from Galena, next stop is Riverton. Stretch those legs and dive into the Old Riverton Store. This place? It’s the real deal.

Originally known as the Williams Store and later the Eisler Bros. Old Riverton Store, this spot is packed with history, it’s been serving travelers since 1925. Grab yourself some snacks, maybe a souvenir or two, and soak in that vintage vibe.

Last, but definitely not least, we hit Baxter Springs. This town is a gem on Route 66, with a rich past you can explore at the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum.

So, there you have it, my friends. Kansas might just be a brief encounter on Route 66, but it’s rich with stories, nostalgia, and good old-fashioned hospitality. With RJ as your guide, you’re sure to experience the warmth and wonder of the Sunflower State’s slice of the Mother Road. Keep cruisin’, and maybe I’ll catch ya on the flip side!
